Knob and tube wiring was a method used to wire electricity in homes and buildings built before 1950.  It consists of single conductors/wires, that travel through your home tied to insulators/knobs, and penetrating studs through tubes. You can typically tell if you have knob and tube wiring by looking in your attic or basement to see it.
